MWEYA SAFARI LODGE

Mweya Safari Lodge was our center of activity on our venture into Queen Elizabeth National Park. It sits on a prominent hill with a commanding view of the surrounding territory. In fact, it sits on a peninsula surrounded by the waters of the Kasinga Channel which joins Lake Edward and Lake George. The area is wild, and animals often come right up on the grounds of the Lodge.

The main lodge contains the reception hall, with a marvelous view out a large window. Attached to the reception area is a gift shop, a large restaurant and a lounge. Breakfast is served every morning on a veranda overlooking the Channel, and little weaver birds try their hardest to snatch bits of bread - and even coffee - from the tables. The food was simply exceptional - and included.

Large porches surround the main lodge, affording comfortable places to sit and watch the wild. Sleeping rooms are like motel rooms located in separate buildings inside the compound, a short walk from the lodge.

Two observation boats give lodge visitors a water-level view of the country and the wild-life. This was not unlike the Adventure land cruise at Disneyland - but all of it real and wonderful.
