Tenth Anniversary Commencement
The Commencement for UCU this year was very special. Archbishop George and Mrs. Eileen Carey were the honored guests. And Diane Stanton, Executive Director of UCU Partners, and many Board members and friends came to the event also.
Archbishop Carey had placed the cornerstone at the founding of the University back in 1998. The University was planted on the grounds of Bishop Tucker Theological Seminary. The lovely old center of the Seminary is now the administrative hall of UCU (Img 1).
Archbishop Livingstone Nkoyoyo, former Archbishop of Uganda, was the founder of UCU. He and his wife Ruth stand together with the Careys in Img 2.
The guests begin their march (Img 3) to the Commencement grounds (Img 4). The Faculty line the procession route (Img 5) as the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Stephen Noll, and Archbishop Carey make their way to the seats of honor (Img 7).
Dr. Noll delivers his address to the graduands and their parents and other officials (Img 10). Lord Carey delivers an inspiring talk to the congregation (Imgs 11 & 12).
The names of those graduating in various categories are read from a separate podium (Img 16). Many bishops of the Church of Uganda attended the Commencement (Img 17-18). And some of the guests from the US, UK and Australia are seen in Img 19.
Graduates stand before the Vice Chancellor as the degrees are awarded (Img 20 & 22).
A band opens and closes the ceremonies with hymns and the national anthem (Img 23). As the dignitaries and faculty process out, the graduates stand to one side (Img 24).
The day was absolutely beautiful, and very joyous.
